Field-based Science Projects

Our field-based science projects offer curriculum aligned to HCPS III for grades K-8. All projects involve lessons at school and in the field.

  I Spy at the Beach - K - 1st Grade
Participants of the I Spy project collect data and take pictures of materials they find at the beach. As a result, participants compare perspectives between what can be seen with the human eye versus a microscope. Their results are then incorporated into a PowerPoint presentation.

  Coral Critters
Participants of the Coral Critter project research coral reef species and take pictures of them at Maui Ocean Center. As a result, they incorporate their pictures and research findings into a PowerPoint presentation.

  My Watershed
Participants of the Watershed project compare and contrast the different plants within the watershed. As a result, their field data collection is incorporated into a multimedia presentation.

  Exploring Maui's Tide Pools
Participants of the Tide Pools project are assigned a tide pool species to research and photograph in its habitat. As a result them incorporate their pictures and research findings into a PowerPoint presentation.

  Ocean Pollution Solutions
Participants conduct a scientific investigation of marine pollution on Hawaii's waters. They work in small teams to develop a set of multimedia interpretive exhibits to help educate the public about protecting Hawaii's waters.
